Andy joined SSC Laser Cutting in 2005.
He studied Mechanical Engineering at Stafford College serving a 5 year Apprenticeship as a Sheet Metal Worker. After serving his Apprenticeship he moved in to Mild Steel Strip Mill Sales, spending 16 years selling sheet and plate to customers in the UK and Ireland.
Joining the business as Sales Director, Andy was instrumental in SSC becoming a truly national business and in January 2015 he became Managing Director for the SSC Group.
Andy is focused on ensuring SSC Laser continues its profitable growth in line with its core values of honesty, competitiveness, hard work, trust and success.
His hobbies and interests include Motor Sport, football (Stoke City Fan) and Cricket.M: 07770 627566
Andy is one of the longest serving members of the SSC team, joining the company shortly after completing a degree in Business Management BA (Hons). He has been with the company since 2003. Joining the team of around 10 people, Andy has helped drive sales and grow the business to the 90+ employee business it is today. Starting as the companies first ever Sales Representative, Andy has worked his way up to Group Sales Manager, whilst also overseeing all aspects of marketing.
Andy is fanatical about football and golf and is a huge Middlesbrough F.C fan. He deems himself the top sportsman at SSC having played semi-professional football and has a golfing handicap of 5. He says one of his biggest achievements to date is convincing his two sons Joshua and Harry (7 & 4 years old) that supporting Middlesbrough is a good decision.
Ben has 13 years in the industry working in stock-holding of both ferrous and non-ferrous materials and all aspects of profiling- gas cutting, plasma cutting and now the best of the bunch – Laser Cutting! Former sales manager for the South West division before taking up the challenge of Regional Sales Manager for SSC’s southern regions and east midlands.
Ben is a big fan of sport, mainly cricket, football and rugby. He likes rough cider (for those of you who don’t know what this is…it’s the type of Cider you buy from Cider Farms – really flat & really strong). He also went to the same school as JK Rowling (but not at the same time…)!M: 07837 592528
Jethro joined us straight from University, after getting a degree in Management International Business Economics from the University of Manchester. He has been at SSC Since July 2011, starting as a Junior Estimator, he worked his way up the business and was our youngest Sales Manager at SSC when he took on the role.
Jethro is an avid sports fan, watching and playing football at every opportunity and self-proclaimed best Ten Pin Bowler at SSC (please note: this was proved to be incorrect after Group Sales Manager, Andy Hume, beat him comfortably with a score of 164 at Septembers team night out!).
James started in the engineering industry when he left school, doing an apprenticeship working in non-ferrous stock holding. Once completed, he left the industry and qualified as a plumbing and heating engineer which he did for around 5 years but was lured back to engineering, this time on steel stockholding. After a couple of years gaining valuable industry experience, he moved to further his knowledge and skills even more and so moved over to profile and laser cutting.
James joined SSC in September 2014. We were still just a sales office at this point and James was instrumental in its growth in helping it become SSC’s third manufacturing division. Working as a senior sales estimator James flourished and recently gained promotion to South West Sales Manager in September 2017.
During his spare time he enjoys spending time with his Fiancé and going on adventures and day trips with his little boy.
He is also a keen follower of mixed martial arts/UFC and previously trained in various areas of the sport including Muay Thai, boxing, Brazilian Jujitsu and Tang-so-do.M: 07950 382705
Neil has over 20 years of flat product and tube processing knowledge from Precision Sheet metalwork to full fabrication of components. Having played semi – professional football for many Southern and Kent league sides for nearly 22 years he believes that teamwork, communication and playing to your strengths are key attributes to have in business and your personal life.
Neil also enjoys playing cricket & golf and has also completed the 3 peaks challenge, climbing Ben Nevis (4409ft), Scafell Pike (3209ft) and Snowdon (3560ft) in 24 hours and after all of those exertions loves nothing more than sitting down with a pint of real ale.
Nick has been working in the steel industry for nearly 18 years, with experience in all types of steel including carbon, alloy and stainless.
As part of a value added service, he has sold laser tube cutting for the majority of his career working in the Midlands and southern areas of the country.
Away from work, Nick is a big football fan supporting Arsenal and a huge motorsport fan. He is fanatical however, about Golf . Carl started off his sales career in Aberdeen in 2005, working in tele-sales for 7 years. Carl then moved and became a technical solutions adviser gaining invaluable industry knowledge working within the oil and gas sector, which was huge within the region at the time. Carl then moved in to the steel industry and arrives at SSC Laser having worked for mild steel plate and tubular steel stockholders in sales both in Aberdeen and continued this when through work he relocated to Manchester in 2016.
Away from work Carl is an avid Spurs fan, but also still plays at an amateur level. Carl also spends time with his wife Laura and dog Ledley (yes…the dog is named after Spurs legend Ledley King) and they are currently expecting their first child in January 2018.M: 07800 546289
Phil has worked in Engineering in the North East of England since 1992, predominantly in Laser & Waterjet cutting. In 2005 he started his own Laser and Waterjet cutting company and for the next 12 years like all small companies he was involved in many roles.
He has a wealth of experience in the industry working with companies from many sectors and thoroughly enjoys engineering as no one day is the same as the next. One of the main things he loves about engineering is that unlike in many sectors you actually get to see and touch the end product after all the hard work. Of course meeting and working with all of the fantastic people in the industry helps keep a smile on his face.
Away from the office he has 4 wonderful children; Erin, Lucy, Ruby and Millie who all help their dad spend his free time. He enjoys DIY, movies and socialising and when he eventually get’s some spare time, Phil likes to get away for adventure days out, where he has done things ranging from quad biking and clay pigeon shooting to tank driving and flying a plane.M: 07792 479218
Meet Merill, our newly appointed Business Development Manager for Scotland.
Merill joins SSC Laser from a tube bending and section manipulation background. The industries he served whilst there range from Motorsport to architectural hand railing to pneumatic conveying.
Merill sees himself as SSC’s very own Stig, having competed in the 2016 Silverstone 24 hour race finishing a very impressive 4th in class! As well as driving race cars he is a keen rugby player, playing most weekends for his local club side, and for all his sins he is an Ipswich Town fan (if it wasn’t for their 1981 UFEA Cup win he wouldn’t be here today!!!).M: 07538 768000
Before joining SSC Laser as a Tube Laser Manager, Mark worked at a metal fabrication company as a sales manager for 2 years. He is a fully qualified car mechanic of 14 years and very much into his cars. He is an extremely competitive individual which sits brilliantly as to why he loves sales so much. He loves nothing more than winning new business and delighting clients.
Outside of SSC Mark loves to take his competitive nature on to the golf course and plays to a handicap of 14. Although having two young boys Charlie (18 months old) and Harry (2 months old) is stopping him from winning much.
Mark is also a massive Bolton Wanderers fan and season ticket holder. He also loves house music/house work – in our eyes a perfect combination for his wife…as we suggest Mark can play his music whilst doing the house work 🙂 .

Paul has joined us from a construction steel company where he was a Sales Manager, but office bound.
He was eager to be back customer facing as he was for many years in the Golf Industry. So, when the opportunity came along to work for SSC Laser it was an easy decision.
Paul is very customer orientated because as he says “without them, you wouldn’t have a job”
Trust and communication are his golden rule to head in the right direction to success.
Paul used to work as a Handyman for several years in and around his local village. During this time, as he worked locally it allowed him to become a Retained Fire Fighter for Essex Fire & Rescue where he enjoyed tremendous Teamwork & Comradery while helping to put something back into the community.
Rugby is his passion and although his playing days are over he enjoyed coaching his 2 boys Sam & Jack at youth level for many years.M: 07944 194265
