SSC’s Newest Sales Estimators
Due to our ambitious growth plans, we have an investment strategy in our sales department and we’re focusing especially on our Sales Estimators throughout the group. We’re delighted to introduce our newest Sales Estimators to the SSC team!
Our Sales Estimators are fundamental in helping grow the business and to convert orders and communicate with not only our clients but also our CAD and Production Departments so we can give the best service possible.
We have an alliance with Brook Street Recruitment who place all our salespeople. Brook Street carry out a thorough selection process to ensure we see the best talent nationwide.
Not only do we carefully select each member of our sales team, at SSC we like to show our appreciation for the hard work each team member puts in, and to recognise this work we’ve put in place an incentive-based sales league program. Incentives include awards, trophies and prizes for the best performers.
Quarter One Best Sales Estimator
Super Sales Estimator, Matt King has been part of the SSC family since November 2015. Working from our Canterbury office, Matt has taken the South East by storm and is already at the top of the leaderboard for quarter one. We asked Matt to tell us a bit about himself and why he loves working at SSC.
“I lived in Canterbury for the majority of my life but more recently I moved to a small village near Sandwich. I previously travelled up to an hour to arrive at my workplace but now working at SSC Laser in Womenswold, with only a ten-minute journey each way, this has been perfect for me. This ensures I arrive home at a reasonable time which is really important being a Dad of two young children. Mainly my wife Ali, daughter Emily, and son James keep me busy in my spare time but I also enjoy watching Spurs play, especially when we’re beating the likes of Real Madrid in the Champions League!!!
Before working at SSC I worked as a purchaser for the NHS and then in the steel industry. With this background knowledge, it’s helped me understand my customers need and what is important to each individual one. Along with the training and support I have had from management and my ambition to succeed this has helped me excel in my job role resulting in reaching targets for myself and the Canterbury branch.
As an Estimator at SSC there is always a new challenge and every day is different which is the main reason I enjoy my job. I’ve won some large orders since joining in November 2015, but my biggest achievement was working with a new customer over a long period of time, I finally gained his trust and persuaded him to start using SSC – he’s not looked back since!
I am really proud to be part of SSC and a team that has grown a business in the south-east from having no presence to now reaching over £100K a month! Who knows what we will be achieving in another two and a half years!”
Best Newcomer Award
Shah Islam works at SSC HQ as a Sales Estimator and this month won the prize of best newcomer in our sales league programme.
Shah is a Mechanical Engineering graduate from Queen Mary University of London, who has found much enjoyment in dealing with projects at both an academic and professional level.
Talking about his professional achievements, Shah says, “Upon completion, I took the steps to attaining a CITB and IPAF accreditation to enhance my understanding and appreciation of the engineering discipline with a hands-on approach, exploring the construction industry. Now taking the steps to venture in a fast, awe-inspiring environment, ensuring clients delight, with the gratefulness of having the support and guidance of a great team behind me at SSC Laser.”
Not only is Shah dedicated to his role at SSC, he is also dedicated to helping people who are less fortunate than himself.
“In my spare time, I endeavour to spend quality time with my family and have a true appreciation of those who help others within society, hence taking part in numerous outreach projects. The charity I spend the most time with is ‘As-Suffa’ who are the chosen partner for TSB – Satley Branch for 2018. We deliver an array of services to the community from Legal Advice, Mental Health and Homelessness – which includes supplying food and shelter through the cold nights. ”
As-Suffa Outreach is a Muslim organisation in Birmingham who work to offer a better future for their local communities. Aiming to reduce poverty and raise awareness of poverty in run-down areas of the UK, As Suffa Outreach run various projects to help people from all faiths, including the homeless, youths and people in crisis after natural disasters, such as the York floods.
The As-Suffa Outreach food bank project is among some of the incredible projects that is run by dedicated volunteers like Shah. At SSC we do our share of fundraising for various UK charities, and we’re inspired by the work that Shah does to help disadvantaged communities across the UK.
To show our appreciation of Shah’s hard work, we awarded him with a trophy and Amazon vouchers to spend on whatever he likes.
NEW Employee Recognition Scheme
In late 2017 we distributed an employee engagement survey to all SSC employees so we could see what we did well and where we could improve things further for our colleagues. Since evaluating the fantastic and valuable feedback that we received, we have set up an employee engagement group who meet once a month to discuss areas for improvement. One of the areas we have developed focuses on employee recognition and from the feedback, we implemented a new recognition scheme for all of the staff at SSC, not just in certain areas of our business.
The new scheme has been developed to recognise colleagues that ‘go the extra mile’ for the business, our colleagues or customers. Every month we then ask for nominations for those who indeed have gone ‘the extra mile’. Once the nominations are in, we select a member of the SSC team to receive a fantastic gift for their hard work and dedication to SSC and our goals.
To launch the scheme, we are proud to announce our first two winners!
Congratulations to Jen Shuttleworth for her fantastic contribution to the success of a recent stock take exercise in December 2017 and to Vanessa Bird for holding down the fort whilst we have been recruiting for a new Purchasing Manager throughout January.
At SSC we value each and every one of our team and will continue to invest in the best training and professional development possible, as well as reward the hard work of our staff.
